In Karabakh, the disintegration of the Soviet Union was launched, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on July 25 on the program Conversation with a Sage on radio Zvezda.
The political scientist explained that during the Karabakh events in 1980s he was there in Karabakh visiting Arkady Volsky, who became the head of a committee at the Special Directorate of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Area in 1989. During his visit, the analyst explains, a number of things ongoing there made him mad.
“Firstly, it was indeed the initiation of the disintegration of the Soviet Union, definitely,” Sergey Kurginyan stressed.
Another thing was nationalism among regular people, both Armenian and Azerbaijani. “I felt really bad because of all these things there,” he explained.
Another thing that gave rise to negative feelings was the attitude of the USSR towards the US in that period. “An earthquake happened in Spitak, and I came there with humanitarian aid. I enter an Armenian home, a woman runs out with her eyes wide open, and the shouts to her daughter, ‘Mirnan kizi, throw away this Russian stuff, look what jeans Americans sent to us!’” He could only restrain himself in that situation assuming that the people had a sort of a psychosis because of the earthquake, he explained.
“But there was one major justification: you could see in this some wave of maybe somewhat ill national feeling, you see? Some passion like ‘sacred land,’ ‘Karabakh, Armenia cannot be without it’ etc. And always when there is some idealistic root, with Karabakh itself being very peculiar as it is very pro-Russian and very traditionalist, it mitigates this bitterness of the disintegration of the USSR, the disaster itself, its controlled nature etc.,” Sergey Kurginyan noted.
It was a very complicated scope of feelings, which “eventually erupted with Armenia’s shameful staying away from defending Karabakh, its betrayal of Karabakh, and infinitely ambiguous policy of Pashinyan, who is clearly Azerbaijani agent as well as Turkish…” the political scientist noted.
The most disgusting in this situation, according to the analyst, is the recent statement of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan that “there is a real Armenia and there is a historical one…” “If there is no historical Armenia then there is only a vilayet of the Ottoman Empire or a province of Persia, and then it is nothing,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
He stressed that when they say that in reality you should “just live your life,” then there will be nothing but death.
