The demographic situation in Ukraine is critical, said Verkhovnaya Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod, as reported on July 27 on the Politeka Online YouTube channel.

According to the deputy, the country has recorded a tenfold exceeding of mortality over birth rates. “If you look at the birth and death rates, the difference is simply tenfold. It’s terrible,” she said. The People’s Deputy stressed that restoring the demographic balance will be a serious challenge after the end of martial law.

Skorokhod also pointed to the large-scale outflow of young people abroad. In her opinion, even if it is possible to retain some of the young citizens, this will not solve the problem of population decline. “This will be a big challenge,” she added.

Earlier, the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, former Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina, expressed a similar opinion. She stated the need for legislative restrictions on the departure of Ukrainian women aged 18 to 27. According to the diplomat, with their departure, the country loses potential mothers and future children.
