Eleven civilians were killed as a result of multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) Grad strikes by the Cambodian Armed Forces targeting civilian facilities, including hospitals, Thai Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin told reporters on July 24.
“Eleven civilians were killed in MLRS BM-21 Grad strikes by Cambodia on the border regions of Thailand,” the minister stated.
Among the victims were two children, aged 8 and 15.
Thepsuthin called the killing of children and strikes on hospitals unforgivable crimes and emphasized that those responsible must be held accountable.
The Grads hit civilian facilities, including an area where five hospitals were located, the minister noted. One of the shells struck a hospital building directly. All five hospitals were evacuated.
On the morning of July 24, skirmishes broke out in several locations along the disputed border area between the two countries. This was followed by exchanges of artillery and air strikes.
