China promises response to new EU anti-Russia sanctions

21.07.2025, Beijing.

China will take countermeasures in response to the European Union’s 18th sanctions package against Russia, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on July 21.

The ministry stated that Beijing demands Brussels immediately revoke its erroneous decision to include Chinese enterprises and financial institutions in the sanctions list.

“China will take necessary measures — we will firmly defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” the ministry declared.

The press office emphasized that these sanctions violate the spirit of mutual understanding between the EU and China, which had been achieved at the highest level. Additionally, the sanctions are expected to have a seriously negative impact on financial relations between Beijing and Brussels.

The ministry also reminded that China has repeatedly raised concerns with the EU regarding unilateral sanctions.

Several days ago the EU Council adopted its 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes, among other measures, restrictions on four Chinese companies.
