US strikes help to lift Iran’s taboo on radical anti-Americanism and nuclear weapons, political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on June 27 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
According to the political scientist, in the current situation, an important dialogue is taking place between Russia and Iran. Russia supports Iran exactly to the same extent that Iran supports Russia, and is open to further deepening this cooperation, but only “on the basis of reliability and a clear understanding that at the decisive moment of strengthening the mutual dialogue, Iran will have no other options,” noted the expert.
Kurginyan recalled a conversation he once had with a high-ranking Iranian official. According to the expert, the interlocutor told him that “[then-US Secretary of State John] Kerry was bought out totally.” In response, Kurginyan asked the Iranian official, “Well, you bought one Kerry, but there are many of them. Don’t you think those who are against you have money?” However, the Iranian representative only insisted: “No, no, no, [we] bought out him totally.”
Then, the political scientist pointed out the main danger for Iran, which, in his opinion, is not external strikes, but internal factors. By this, Iran’s secular Westernized population – the very “ass laden with money” and the “initiatives of those Iranian idiots who think that they will reach an agreement” were meant. According to the expert, all of this has largely been eliminated as a result of recent events.
The expert emphasized that with their strikes on Iran, the US effectively eliminated all of its internal allies in this country and lifted a number of previous taboos. “They helped to eliminate all their internal allies. They helped to lift the taboo on nuclear weapons. They helped to lift the taboo on radical anti-Americanism, which, previously, existed only declaratively,” Kurginyan stated.
At the same time, according to the philosopher, radical anti-Americanism in the country will remain at a declarative level as long as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remains in power. Kurginyan named “the mullahs and the most pragmatic part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) associated with them” as the main force that does not want escalation. These groups, he explained, do not want instability within the country. They are focusing on solving internal problems, dealing with the power transition, and the struggle for spheres of influence, not on plans for aggression.
Kurginyan noted that the Iranian leadership was striving for peace, and that’s it. “It was clear that they only wanted peace. They still do,” the political scientist noted. Nevertheless, the US, according to the expert, continues its attempt to draw Iran into a direct conflict. “They are challenged: ‘Fight us, fight, fight! Well, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead!’, but the bombings will not solve the problem without ground troops. This is not a solution,” Kurginyan stated. He pointed out that Washington will not achieve victory with airstrikes alone.
On June 13, Israel launched a massive strike on Iranian nuclear infrastructure facilities, air defense systems, missile systems, and other military targets on Iranian territory, killing several IRGC representatives and Iranian nuclear specialists. In response, Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli cities and military facilities. On June 22, the US launched missile strikes from the air and sea against Iranian nuclear infrastructure. In response, Tehran attacked US military bases in Qatar. On June 24, Iran and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement with US mediation.
