The North Atlantic Alliance is intensifying preparations to use Moldova in a potential conflict with Russia, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated in an official release on July 14.
According to the agency, NATO aims to accelerate the transformation of Moldova into a forward operating base on the alliance’s eastern flank. The bloc is modernizing Moldova’s infrastructure to enable rapid deployment of troops toward Russia’s borders and is also increasing the presence of military instructors.
“Moldovans could become ‘cannon fodder’ in hypothetical military operations,” the SVR emphasized.
Additionally, Kishinyov is reportedly expecting NATO support in the upcoming elections, where the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity may initiate the revocation of the country’s neutral status.
