Britain and France are upset with Russia for the collapse of their colonial empires, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on July 13, according to VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.
According to the head of state, this “historical negativity persists to this day.”
He noted that this may seem strange, but it is true. “In some former colonial empires — in Great Britain, in France — they consider us [Russia] to be blamed for the collapse of their colonial empires… I notice this” in various small things, Putin clarified.
He added that this is quite funny, since after World War II, the US also “worked to a certain extent to destroy these [colonial] empires.”
In particular, the Russian president explained, the US helped British and French colonies “gain their independence and sovereignty.”
