By declaring that peaceful means to resolve the conflict in Ukraine have been exhausted, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has decided to fully devote himself to the militarization of Germany, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference on July 11, following his participation in ASEAN-related events in Kuala Lumpur.
“If Mr. Merz believes that peaceful options have been used up and exhausted, then he must have decided to completely and fully devote himself to the militarization of Germany at the expense of his own people,” Lavrov stated, adding that Merz wants to “once again parade under Nazi slogans” supposedly in the name of repelling the “Russian threat.”
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Merz’s behavior is “complete nonsense.”
Earlier reports indicated that Merz expressed Germany’s readiness to purchase US-made Patriot air defense systems to transfer them to Kiev. The German Chancellor stressed that the country’s foreign and defense ministers are already engaged in negotiations. According to Merz, he discussed these potential deliveries with US President Donald Trump, although no final decision has been made yet.
