Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed opposition to NATO’s plans to militarize the Asia-Pacific region (APR) on July 10, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Russia and China jointly oppose actions and plans aimed at the militarization of the region,” the statement reads.
The ministry emphasized that both countries also object to the deployment of military infrastructure in the region built to NATO standards.
The joint declaration followed a meeting between the two officials on the sidelines of ASEAN ministerial events held in Kuala Lumpur.
