The cargo ship Magic Seas, attacked by the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, sunk in the Red Sea, Yemeni television channel Al-Masirah informed on July 7.
Citing a statement by Ansar Allah spokesperson Yahya Sarea, the channel reported that the Magic Seas sank after being targeted by the movement’s armed forces.
According to Yahya Saria, the vessel was attacked for violating the ban on docking at Israeli ports.
The ship was attacked near the Yemeni coast on July 6. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations center, the attackers approached the cargo ship in motorboats and used small arms, rocket-propelled grenades, and unmanned surface vehicles in the assault. The vessel was damaged, began taking on water, and caught fire.
A representative of the ship’s operator, the Greek company Stem Shipping, previously confirmed that all 19 crew members safely abandoned the vessel. The Magic Seas was transporting black metal and fertilizers from China to Turkey.
