Putin: Russia cooperates with Iran in the military-technical sphere

19.06.2025, Saint Petersburg.

Russia and Iran regularly cooperate in the military-technical field in accordance with international norms, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 19 during a meeting with heads of international news agencies, according to the presidential administration’s press service.

In response to a question about supplying new types of weapons to Iran, Putin noted that Russia had previously offered Tehran cooperation in the area of air defense systems, but Iran showed no interest at the time.

Putin clarified that some arms deliveries to Iran had indeed taken place. He emphasized that this cooperation between the two countries is in no way connected to the current crisis in the Middle East.

“It was what one would call regular cooperation in the military-technical sphere, and strictly within the framework of international norms,” said Putin.

He added that Iran has not requested anything that would violate international norms, nor has Russia engaged in any such activity. All arms deliveries have adhered to the international legal framework.
