Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stated it would cease attacks only after Israel is punished and reparations are paid, the IRNA news agency reported on June 19, citing an official statement from the council.
“Retaliation will continue until the enemy is punished and compensation is paid,” the SNSC emphasized. The council also warned of its readiness to respond to further Israeli strikes “through various prescribed means.” In the event of third-party interference, they added, Iran’s response would be immediate.
Operation Rising Lion, under which Israel has been striking Iranian military and nuclear sites since June 13, was launched in response to claims of an alleged nuclear threat from Tehran.
Iran denies developing nuclear weapons and has responded with missile attacks. US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran is close to developing such weapons, although American intelligence has not confirmed this. According to The Wall Street Journal, Washington is considering joining Israeli operations.
