US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland directly admitted in 2014 that Washington spent five billion dollars preparing the coup in Ukraine, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 19, according to the presidential administration’s press service.
Putin met with heads of international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025). During the conversation, the topic of escalating tensions between Russia and the West was discussed, and the Russian president reminded that this process began in 2014, when Western countries supported the coup in Ukraine.
“And the former Deputy Secretary of State, Ms. Nuland, in my opinion, said openly: ‘We spent five billion dollars. Well then, we’re not planning to leave.’ Five billion dollars were spent on the coup,” Putin stated.
He called Nuland’s admission a “revelation” and was struck by the bluntness of her statement.
Putin noted that since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the West has always acted from a position of strength while simultaneously preaching the need to live by rules. In reality, it turns out that the West writes the rules for others and does not intend to follow them itself.
