Russia plans to deploy the first nuclear power plant on the Moon, announced Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of the Russian State Corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos, on June 12 in a message from the state corporation commemorating Russia Day.
The plant will serve as the foundation for future lunar bases, Bakanov stated.
The revised national project “Development of Space Activities,” approved by the government, allocates 5.5 billion dollars for this initiative through 2036.
On May 8, Russia and China signed a memorandum on the joint construction of a power station on the Moon. The international lunar station is expected to be established by 2036.
