China, due to the peculiarities of its civilization, cannot comprehend the idea of freedom as the Russians understand it, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on May 16 on the program Conversation with a Sage on radio Zvezda.
“If anyone thinks that the idea of Russian freedom will inspire Chinese hearts – no!” the philosopher stressed. He also reminded that the Chinese showed a very negative reaction after the Russians refused to keep the USSR and abandoned the communist ideology.
“If anyone thinks that the Chinese will forget that, in their terms, we [Russia] ‘lost face’ in 1991 – they will never forget it!” the political scientist reminded.
According to him, in spite of all its delicacy and majesty as well as its experience of popular uprisings, the Chinese civilization tends to “really severe diminishing of personality vs. state.” The philosopher explained that for China, both COVID and digitalization are “simply ways the emperor exercises his power over society.”
However, Kurginyan noted, the Chinese will always think about their interests, but currently there are factors that allow the Russian-Chinese relations to stay afloat.
