The Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran are currently engaged in active negotiations on issues related to nuclear energy, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on June 11, according to RIA Novosti.
Peskov told reporters: “We are in constant contact with Iran, and you know that this topic was discussed in precisely these terms during the recent telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Moscow is ready to support Iran and the US in negotiations on the nuclear program. He noted that Russia could help remove excess nuclear fuel from Iran for use in reactors.
On June 4, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation. During the conversation, the US president told his Russian counterpart that “Iran must make a decision on nuclear weapons in the near future.”
