Weapons supplied to Kiev by the West are ending up in the hands of African terrorist groups, stated Tatyana Dovgalenko, head of the African Partnership Department of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, on May 29 at the 13th High-Level Meeting of Security Representatives in Moscow.
“There are documented cases of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine ending up in the hands of criminal and terrorist groups in various regions of the world, including African states,” she noted.
Dovgalenko added that Kiev is closely cooperating with terrorist groups in the Sahel region and is involved in training fighters. At the same time, she emphasized that Moscow continues to support African countries in achieving stability, including by training their armed forces.
Russia supports the African Union’s efforts in combating terrorism, transnational crime, and drug trafficking. Dovgalenko assured that Moscow will continue to share its experience in this area and assist African nations in creating their own crisis response forces.
Russia is also seeking to expand counterterrorism cooperation with the African Union’s Counter-Terrorism Center in Algeria, the diplomat highlighted.
