Poland’s Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz explicitly called Russia an enemy during a conversation with journalists on May 28.
This stark assessment of bilateral relations was prompted by planned exercises of the Russian Navy in the Baltic Sea.
“Russia, our enemies, are becoming increasingly aggressive,” the minister revealed.
The press service of Russia’s Baltic Fleet had announced the exercises in advance. The drills are expected to involve 25 helicopters and aircraft, over 20 ships, and approximately 3,000 personnel.
Since 2022, Poland has been underscoring its hostile stance toward Russia. For instance, the Polish parliament passed a resolution labeling Russia a “state sponsor of terrorism.”
Relations were further strained by Poland’s initiative to shut down the Russian consulate general in Kraków.
