Today, Southeast Asia and Russia are developing within a conservative framework, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on April 26 on the Right to Know program on the TVC channel.
According to the political scientist, the countries of Southeast Asia, including China, Vietnam, India, as well as Russia are developing within the framework of Modernity. “Those who are now called conservatives would have been earlier called normal modernists,” the philosopher explained.
“A modernist consensus has moved to Southeast Asia. China operates within the modernist consensus, Vietnam functions within the modernist consensus, and so does India.
Modernity has moved to this vast and developing territory, and Russia, represented by Putin, has aligned with it. Putin is a classic conservative-modernist leader, in my opinion. He absolutely is, even with all the internal notions of what a conservative-modernist man is” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
The liberal West mutated beyond the boundaries of the modernist consensus and entered the postmodernist paradigm, explained the political scientist. Those conservative forces that still remain in the West are completely disunited and do not seriously influence anything.
But in the US, against the backdrop of the West’s abandoning of conservatism, Donald Trump stands out with a program to return the country to modernity.
“In the US, Trump suddenly stands out and says, ‘I am a conservative! I am a supporter of Modernity. Make America Great Again’ – means restoring the America of Modernity. This is a nation state, this is a great industrial revolution, this is a first place in the world in terms of economy, again,” Sergey Kurginyan explained.
Modern conflicts between countries such as India and Pakistan, Iran and Iraq, and Russia and Ukraine are typical and in essence – very similar to conflicts that took place in the era of the rising nation states and do not differ from them in their essence, the political scientist emphasized. Therefore, the West’s intense reaction to the Ukraine conflict is puzzling, as it is no different from other regional confrontations.
“By the way, I have always asked, what is the big difference between the conflict between Iran and Iraq, India and Pakistan, and Russia and Ukraine? Why is the West so extremely ecstatic about the conflict in Ukraine, and so calm about the Indo-Pakistani, Iranian-Iraqi, and other conflicts? These are ordinary conflicts of nation states,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement said.
The era of Modernity is characterized by the rapid development of science and the separation of science from the church. Thinkers believed in the limitless capacity of reason to gain knowledge based on rationalism. Enlightenment thinkers gave a new impulse to the idea of progress, observable not only in science but also in society. Knowledge capable of changing human destiny became the goal that society should strive for.
