Kurginyan: DPRK would not have built nuclear weapons if it had been a backward country

21.05.2025, Moscow.

The liberal myth about the DPRK as a backward country is one of the most hideous and stupid, a backward country cannot create nuclear weapons, political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 16 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.

The political scientist noted that despite the rapprochement between Russia and China, Moscow’s policy will not be a completely pro-Beijing. Russia will maneuver, sometimes getting closer to China, sometimes stepping back slightly.

And the Chinese are thinking. They do not say: the Chinese army will fight on the side of Russia,as the North Koreans did – to their credit,” Kurginyan noted.

The philosopher emphasized that all the nonsense about the DPRK being a backward country, where people eat only grass, “is just ridiculous for any person who understands something about technology.”

Building an atomic bomb requires incredible technological development,” the political scientist explained. He cited Iran as an example, which poses a question, “Does it have that level of development or not?”

An atomic bomb cannot be made out of nothing: as if everyone ate grass, and in the midst of it, there were some research centers where they developed an atomic bomb,” Kurginyan added. Such a scheme cannot work because nuclear weapons require entire industries that will produce the necessary materials and technologies, he explained.

Therefore, regarding the thesis that North Korea is a miserable country where everyone eats grass, this is one of the most hideous and stupid myths that, nevertheless, has dominated the liberal thinking in Russia. This is not true at all,” Kurginyan emphasized.
