Iranian leader predicts outcome of nuclear talks with USA

20.05.2025, Tehran.

Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei stated on May 20 that the indirect negotiations with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program — which were also held during the presidency of the late Ebrahim Raisi in May 2024 — yielded no results then, and will likely not do so now. His comments were published on his official website.

He remarked that during Raisi’s presidency, indirect talks with the US took place but led to nothing.

“We do not believe they will produce results now either, and we do not know what the outcome will be,” Khamenei said.

His statement comes in the wake of US demands for Iran to completely halt uranium enrichment. At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that a deal with Tehran is nearing completion. Iranian authorities, however, have firmly stated that they will not fully abandon uranium enrichment.

To date, four rounds of indirect negotiations between the US and Iran have taken place.
