The West is preparing Ukraine to become an existential problem for Russia, said Andrey Bersenyov, co-author of the multiauthor monograph Ukrainism, during a presentation at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod on May 15, Rossa Primavera News Agency wrote.
According to Bersenyov, the West’s plan for the conflict in Ukraine is meant to solve several strategic goals, specifically, “to finalize the Ukrainian identity” in a neo-Nazi vein and to dismantle Russian statehood. Major think tanks and prominent figures with intelligence backgrounds speak openly about this, he noted.
Bersenyov recalled that as early as 2007, businessman Vladimir Filin – closely connected to intelligence services – had declared that Ukraine needed a war with Russia “to finalize Ukrainian identity.”
“The first person to say this in the post-Soviet era was a well-known Ukrainian general – then not yet a general, but already in intelligence – who had served in Afghanistan: Vladimir Filin. For a long time, he was in charge of Banderites in Ukraine before they came to power in 2014,” Bersenyev stated.
“He said: ‘We need a war with Russia.’ That was in 2007, not 2014 or 2016, to complete the formation of Ukrainian identity. As we can now see, that project is in full swing, because if there is anything in which Ukrainians are at least on par with us, it is in building an intense mono-ideological identity,” he emphasized.
Bersenyov added that Ukraine’s post-Soviet decline was sharper and more severe than in countries like Kazakhstan or Belarus. However, this has not prevented the Ukrainian Armed Forces from holding back the Russian army for a third consecutive year.
The monograph, edited by Sergey Kurginyan, explores the construct of “Ukrainism” – a surrogate narrative of Ukrainian history created by the West over many years to oppose historic Russia and its southwestern territories.
A documentary series based on the monograph, titled Ukrainism, is currently airing on the Zvezda television channel.
