Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister: Iran will not abandon uranium enrichment for deal with US

19.05.2025, Tehran.

Tehran will not agree to a deal with Washington if it requires Iran to halt uranium enrichment, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi stated on May 19, according to Mizan news agency.

“If the US goal is to stop Iran from enriching uranium, then talks won’t proceed. We will not compromise on enrichment,” the official emphasized.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also revealed that it has yet to receive any written proposals from Washington regarding a nuclear agreement. This was confirmed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that Tehran must make a decision soon regarding the nuclear deal — otherwise, something bad would happen.

In response, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the inconsistency of the US president’s position, stating that Trump alternates between threats and offers of peaceful resolution. He stressed that Iran is not afraid of threats and does not seek escalation.
