Russian student secretly took machine gun belts from Ukrainian positions

Ten-year-old Sergey Shcheglov, a student from Russia’s Kursk Region, brought home three machine gun belts from Ukrainian positions in an effort to prevent Ukrainian militants from firing on Russian troops, Russia 24 reported on May 18.

According to the boy, he personally collected the items from destroyed enemy positions and brought them back home. “I tossed them into a sack, covered them with canned stew on top, and carried them home,” said the young hero.

He explained that his motive was to stop the Ukrainian militants from continuing their attacks. Without ammunition, he reasoned, the enemy wouldn’t be able to fire effectively.

The news channel emphasized that Sergey acted during active combat operations, at a time when Ukrainian forces still controlled parts of the region.

On April 26, Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin that the Ukrainian group near the Kursk border had been completely defeated. During the operation, the enemy reportedly sustained losses exceeding 76,000 personnel.
