India announces measures against Pakistan due to terrorist attack in Kashmir

23.04.2025, Delhi.

India has announced retaliatory measures against Pakistan, which it blamed for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir), NDTV reported on April 23.

The Indian government’s security committee held a meeting in the evening chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and approved New Delhi’s response to the terrorist attack in Kashmir and directed security forces to remain vigilant.

India’s Deputy External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri announced the decisions. He said that the “defense, military, naval and air advisors in Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata” and have a week to leave the country.

India is withdrawing its advisers with similar positions from Islamabad. The total strength of the Indian and Pakistani diplomatic missions will be reduced from the current 55 to 30 by May 1.

A decision has been taken to immediately close the only operational land border crossing between the two countries – Attari.

India has announced the expulsion of all Pakistani nationals who are in the country under the SAARC visa waiver scheme within 48 hours. From now on, Pakistani nationals are banned from entering under this program. These are 24 categories of citizens ranging from senior officials and judges to journalists, sportsmen and businessmen.

Also India announced the suspension of the Indus River Waters Treaty of 1960 until Pakistan withdraws its support for cross-border terrorism.

On April 22, terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons on tourists in Pahalgam, killing 26 people. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group affiliated with the Kashmir-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (an organization banned in Russia), claimed responsibility for the attack.
