India still has memory of the USSR and it is grateful to the Russians, and Indians will always maintain contacts with Russia, political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on April 4 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
Kurginyan recalled how he once had a chance to take a key part in a major international conference where issues regarding the future of humanity were discussed, and representatives from India were among other participants.
According to the political scientist, a young Indian woman from a high caste, who was an official representative of a major Indian media outlet, approached him after the event. She asked Kurginyan if he truly wanted to restore the Soviet Union.
“I said, ‘Well, yes, the movement sets these goals and others’,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement responded to her. “So, will you restore it or not?'” the woman asked in response.
“I said, ‘Well, anyone who says he wants to accomplish something makes an assumption that in the long run it’s possible. But what we imply is the USSR 2.0… And why are you asking?'” the political scientist said.
And then this woman, according to him, said with great pain, “Because I cannot, I cannot live without hoping that the USSR will be restored.”
Sergey Kurginyan noted that in India, there is “memory of this Russian assistance and great gratitude for it.” At the same time, he pointed out another aspect of India’s attitude toward Russia.
“Nonetheless, there is also arrogance: while Russians stepped back, we moved forward. And please take this factor into account. It is not Russia who supplies us with medicines, but India who supplies Russia. Therefore, I cannot absolutize India’s relations with Russia, although I believe that they will never be reduced to insignificance,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained.
Sergey Kurginyan is confident that no matter how much India is tempted by the proposals from the US and others, it “will always keep some kind of communication portfolio with us.”
