The prospects for cooperation between Russia and the Gulf States in the field of artificial intelligence are considered promising, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said in an interview with RIA Novosti on April 20.
According to the diplomat, countries in the region demonstrate a “comprehensive approach” to the implementation of AI, combining innovation with the development of legal norms. “The Gulf States are among the pioneers of sectoral implementation of artificial intelligence at the state level,” Vershinin noted. He added that a key task remains the prevention of extremist groups from using neural networks.
The deputy foreign minister emphasized the need to adapt AI systems to national legal and cultural characteristics. “It is important to ensure alignment with… the cultural and religious structure,” he stressed. Vershinin also highlighted areas of cooperation: sharing experiences in ICT regulation, joint cybersecurity solutions, and coordination on international platforms.
“Our common priority is ensuring national security in the use of cross-border technologies,” stated the Foreign Ministry representative. He confirmed Russia’s readiness to share technical developments for the protection of AI services.
In conclusion, Vershinin expressed confidence in strengthening the partnership, “The potential for cooperation… is definitely there, and it is significant.” The diplomat reminded that both sides have already agreed on principles for cooperation in the digital agenda, including countering cyber threats.
