The liberation of the village of Oleshnya in the Sudzha district of Kursk Region signifies a shift of hostilities into Ukrainian territory, and the operational direction should now be referred to as the Sumy direction rather than the Kursk direction, Russian military experts stated on April 20, according to the newspaper Vzglyad.
According to military expert Vasily Dandykin, the liberation of Oleshnya opened the road to the Ukrainian village of Yunakovka, located just seven kilometers away in Sumy Region, where the Ukrainian armed units established a logistical hub.
“It is quite likely that Yunakovka will become our next main target. From our forward positions to the city of Sumy, it’s about 30 kilometers, but the enemy has managed to fortify and entrench themselves,” the expert noted.
He added that further developments will depend on the outcome of ongoing negotiations and instructions from the Russian leader regarding the creation of a sanitary zone. In the coming days, the village of Gornal is expected to be liberated, and Ukrainian militants will have to answer for their atrocities against civilians. “And they committed many, perhaps even more than the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War,” he said.
Military expert Mikhail Onufrienko stated that the liberation of Oleshnya opens another axis toward Yunakovka, aiding in its potential loss for Ukraine. According to him, it’s no longer about the prospects of the Ukrainian militants in the region, but rather the expansion of the Russian army’s capabilities in Ukraine’s Sumy region. “This direction should already be referred to as the Sumy direction over the past two weeks,” he stated.
He emphasized that attempts by the Ukrainian militants to hold positions in Kursk Region are completely pointless and that the liberation of Oleshnya on April 19 was inevitable. After losing Sudzha, Ukraine no longer held influence in the region, and it became clear that Ukrainian militants would have to quickly retreat from Russian territory.
