The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained Marius Prunyanu — an agent of Ukrainian military intelligence and a Moldovan citizen who fought in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the FSB press service on April 14.
“The Russian Federal Security Service has stopped the unlawful activities of Marius Prunyanu, a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, born in 2001,” the statement reads.
It is reported that he arrived in Russia on assignment from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry (GUR MOU) to organize sabotage and terrorist attacks.
The FSB established that in 2022–2023, Prunyanu participated in the activities of the Center for Special Operations of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (military unit A1737) and the “International Legion” (military unit 3449), fighting against Russian serviecemen near Artemovsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
According to the FSB, Prunyanu was recruited in December 2023 by a GUR officer, given the codename “Max,” and sent to Moldova to prepare terrorist attacks in Russia.
It is known that a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with Moldovan license plates was equipped by Ukrainian intelligence with a hidden compartment disguised as a battery, containing three explosive devices.
In 2024, Prunyanu traveled from Moldova through Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia before arriving in Russia to plant explosive devices in Volgograd and Saratov. However, he was detained by Russian security forces.
According to the FSB, Ukrainian intelligence planned to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts in Russia using the smuggled explosive devices.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against Prunyanu for preparing a terrorist act and for the illegal acquisition and transportation of explosives or explosive devices.
