The Central Bank of Russia manages to unblock half of the frozen Russian assets

09.04.2025, Moscow.

The Central Bank of Russia and the Ministry of Finance, according to data as of the beginning of this year, have achieved the unblocking of about half of Russian assets that were frozen after the start of the SMO, Head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said in the State Duma on April 9.

Given all the measures taken, by the beginning of this year about half of the assets of Russian citizens and companies that fell under the blockage in 2022 have been unblocked,” she said.

On the eve, Nabiullina said that Western assets frozen in Russia as part of retaliatory measures cannot be unblocked without good reasons. She also noted that some of such funds were sold, but the process was not massive.

After the start of the SMO, the EU and G7 countries blocked about €300 billion of Russian assets found in their possession.
