Kurginyan explains why we must not get involved in conflict with Turkey

Russia in its current condition cannot afford getting involved in another conflict; therefore, there is no alternative to the “Russian-Turkish project” now, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan wrote in his analytical essay “On the Verge of Catastrophe” published in issue 624 of the Essence of Time newspaper.

According to Sergey Kurginyan, in today’s realities Russia “is definitely unable to withstand another conflict in addition to the Ukrainian conflict.”

However, there are forces in the Russian elite that actively promote the Russian-Turkish cooperation project, which, similarly to the project of Russia’s integration into the Western world, will not bring us any good.

“It has become perfectly clear that some part of our elite’s being involved in the Russian-Turkish project, for profit or otherwise, and the belief in this project as an extension of the belief in the Russian-Western project, along with the mindless manner in which this Russian-Turkish project unfolds, are one thing. But our objective inability to offer any real alternative to such a Russian-Turkish project is another thing,” Sergey Kurginyan noted.

The political scientist explained that this Russian-Turkish project “will eventually finish us.” “But it will finish us later. But if we, in our current condition, begin to make any strong effort in an alternative to this project, we will ruin ourselves immediately,” he stressed.

We cannot easily get rid of the pro-Turkish lobby in the Russian elite even if we want to. And now, given the current condition of the Russian society, any alternative to the Russian-Turkish friendship will be catastrophic to Russia.

“If we as we are now begin, having disposed of the pro-Turkish lobby somehow (and it is absolutely unclear how to do it), to seek an alternative to what is being done now, we will fail immediately,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement concludes.
