Lavrov reveals details of Russia-US talks in Riyadh

25.03.2025, Moscow.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined the key topics discussed during the Russian-US negotiations in Riyadh in an interview with Channel One on March 25.

Lavrov noted that the delegations primarily addressed issues previously agreed upon by Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. One of the main topics was ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea.

The Russian Foreign Minister stated that Moscow supports reviving agreements on Black Sea shipping security in a form acceptable to all parties. He emphasized Russia’s concern for food security in African nations, the Global South, and the East.

Lavrov added that the Russian delegation urged the US to ensure that any new Black Sea initiative avoids ambiguous language.

Regarding engagement with Kiev’s leader Vladimir Zelensky, Lavrov stressed that Russia’s position is that his word cannot be trusted. Therefore, Moscow requires concrete guarantees, which can only come from direct US orders to Zelensky.

Lavrov pointed out that Washington understands that only the USA can compel Kiev to halt terrorist attacks and shelling of civilian infrastructure.

The minister also remarked that without European support, Ukraine would have faced defeat long ago.
