Poland will increase the number of border guard personnel on its border with Belarus by 1,500, announced Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak on March 22, as reported by RMF FM.
“We <…> will recruit 1,500 new border guard personnel,” Siemoniak stated, promising to deploy them to the Belarusian border. “The first 500 new officers will be recruited this year,” he pledged, referring to the alleged flow of migrants as a form of “hybrid aggression” from Russia and Belarus.
He also explained that this decision is part of a broader national defense strategy, which includes upgrading barriers and improving methods to combat illegal immigration. According to Siemoniak, there are currently 11,000 personnel stationed at the Belarusian border.
Poland recently held a briefing for security forces at the Belarusian border. The government reported the installation of an electronic surveillance system on the Istochanka and Svisloch rivers and the completion of barrier modernization efforts.
