Foreign companies expressing a desire to resume business in Russia must undergo thorough scrutiny, stated Aleksandr Shokhin, head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), in an interview with TASS on March 24.
According to Shokhin, it is reasonable to apply an individualized approach to foreign investors, but there should also be “universal requirements” for foreign companies.
“There still needs to be a threshold… including how they left, how they conducted themselves after leaving. This includes whether they financed the Ukrainian Armed Forces and whether they were directly involved in the production of ammunition and weaponry,” Shokhin stated.
As reported by Rossa Primavera News Agency, on March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the Russian government, during the RSPP congress, to develop a procedure for allowing foreign companies back into the country, including those that previously left the Russian market due to sanctions.
It is expected that permissions for companies from “unfriendly” countries, primarily Western nations, will be granted by a special government commission on foreign investments.
