Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to cease forceful actions against Yemen’s Houthis on March 15, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote.
During a phone conversation, Rubio informed Lavrov about the US military operation against the Houthis.
“In response to the arguments presented by the US representative, Lavrov emphasized the need to immediately stop the use of force,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
According to Lavrov, a political dialogue involving all parties to the conflict is necessary to find a solution that would avoid bloodshed.
According to The New York Times, US President Donald Trump did not approve a large-scale operation against the Houthis, fearing US entanglement in another Middle Eastern conflict. Instead, the US limited itself to airstrikes on several Houthi targets in Yemen.
