The clashes in Syria between security forces and those who reject the new administration of Ahmed al-Sharaa (al-Jolani) could impact the stability and security of the entire Middle Eastern region, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on March 7.
“The Iraqi Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the events unfolding in Syria and the dangerous consequences these events may have for the stability and security of the region,” the ministry’s press service reported.
The statement emphasized Iraq’s commitment to protecting civilians and urged all Syrians to exercise restraint.
Additionally, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry called on the international community to increase its efforts to end the humanitarian crisis in Syria, stressing the need for a political resolution to the conflict that guarantees Syria’s unity and the security of its people.
The Syrian transitional government was established by al-Jolani on December 9, 2024. On January 29, al-Jolani declared himself the president of Syria during the transitional period.
