The desire to preserve personal power is dictated by European politicians’ calls to continue fighting in Ukraine, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said in his Telegram channel on March 7.
According to him, Donald Trump’s accession to power in the United States was a “shock and surprise” for many European politicians who supported the Democrats.
At the same time, Volodin noted that with the arrival of Republicans in the United States, the perspectives of the current European leaders are the darkest, especially since the right-wing and conservatives have started winning elections in European countries. This is due to completely opposite views on key policy issues.
“In order to maintain personal power, Macron, Starmer, Zelensky, Tusk need a war in Ukraine,” he wrote.
They carry out this agenda under the pretext of ensuring the security of European countries, but in fact these people protect first of all themselves, Volodin added.
He also commented on Emmanuel Macron’s recent “address to the nation,” emphasizing that the French president had fallen into hysteria in his attempt to preserve himself. “Macron’s statement about the need to start a discussion on the use of nuclear weapons and the continuation of war is a path to a great tragedy,” the Russian politician said.
According to Volodin, Macron, having decided that he has the right to claim the role of a pan-European leader, is creating big problems not only for France, but for the entire European Union.
“This also concerns the institutions of the European Union. The head of the European Commission, Ursula, who speaks of plans to rearm Europe and has had the temerity to announce its militarization, does not think about the consequences. But only how to keep herself in power,” the Russian politician emphasized.
According to Volodin, now almost all of Europe is in a protracted economic crisis. “For the entire year 2024, the eurozone’s GDP grew by only 0.7%,” he noted.
At present, the entire European Union is going through serious turmoil and is facing a difficult choice, the Russian politician added.
“The near future will show whether Europe is capable of making the right decision, guided by the interests of people, rather than Napoleons and clowns,” Volodin concluded.
