Expert assesses what will happen in EU after US halts military aid to Ukraine

04.03.2025, Moscow.

The historical rivalry between the UK, Germany, and France will intensify following the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine, international affairs expert Konstantin Blokhin stated in an interview with Vzglyad on March 4.

Earlier, the administration of US President Donald Trump announced that it was freezing all military assistance to Ukraine until Kiev demonstrates a commitment to peace negotiations.

According to Blokhin, Europe is now left as Ukraine’s only remaining hope for military support.

“Against this backdrop, there will likely be no consolidated European bloc, but rather an increase in historical competition between the UK, Germany, and France. None of them will agree to let a rival become Europe’s number one power,” he explained.

Meanwhile, as Russia, China, and the USA continue their economic growth, EU’s economy remain stagnant, Blokhin added.

Previously, Trump emphasized that the USA must focus on replenishing its own stockpiles of weapons and military equipment. He noted that Washington has spent far more than any other country in supporting Ukraine, sending some of the world’s “best” weaponry to the frontlines.
