The efforts to fight illegal migration in Russia should be increased and an updated concept of migration policy should be adopted as early as in 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the board of the Russian Interior Ministry on March 5.
The President noted the need to work out the refusal of hard-copy migration cards and the transition to electronic authorization of foreign citizens.
Putin emphasized that the efforts to counter illegal migration in Russia should be intensified. And, according to him, the Russian government should pay attention to this, among other things. The Russian leader said that recently the discussion about these issues was discussed during a meeting with the head of the Interior Ministry Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
“These and other innovations should be reflected in an updated concept of migration policy, which should be adopted this year as soon as possible,” Putin instructed.
It should be noted that on February 5, 2025, new legislative norms for migrant workers came into force in Russia. Migrants who have committed an offense or are illegally staying in Russia will be put on a special register of controlled persons. This will restrict their rights to buy real estate and transportation, to drive a car, to lend money, to marry, to open new bank accounts, to spend more than 30 thousand rubles a month and to move freely around the country.
