There is no acceptable option for Russia to agree with the United States on ending the Ukrainian conflict, philosopher, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on February 21 on the the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The political scientist recalled that actions to restore trust between Russia and the United States were announced the first steps of the new stage of interaction between the two countries after the recent election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. But in the absence of a clear subject from the US side who will honor possible agreements, it is pointless to negotiate with them.
“We are just restoring trust. Towards whom? Towards what? Where is the subject that will honor agreements with Russia over the long term, whatever they are? Where is that entity of US politics? Who is it? Who are we, in fact, making agreements with? And about what?” the analyst stated.
Kurginyan noted that holding presidential elections in Ukraine, the necessity of which Trump’s team and he himself speak about, will not be able to provide legitimacy to the elected president, whoever he may be. Because holding elections without the participation of the residents of the territories that Ukraine considers its own makes the elected Ukrainian president illegitimate, which makes any agreements with him meaningless.
In addition, if there are agreements on a ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict, the West will immediately introduce foreign military units into the territory remaining under Ukraine’s control. However, this is unacceptable for Russia, and Russian officials repeatedly stated this, so it also makes such agreements impossible, the political analyst said.
