A ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict will inevitably lead to the deployment of Western troops into the remaining territory of Ukraine, philosopher, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on 21 February on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
Commenting on the currently intensively discussed issue of the possibility of settling the Ukrainian conflict if Russia and the United States reached some kind of agreement, the political scientist warned that the West would inevitably introduce its military units into Ukrainian territory in this case.
“As soon as this ceasefire takes place – troops enter the territory of Ukraine, it doesn’t matter whether they are from Europe or someone else,” Kurginyan said.
The political analyst recalled that Russian officials had already stated that such a development was unacceptable. However, he said, these statements by the Russian side will not stop the West, and how the Russian authorities will respond to these actions unacceptable for Russia is a big question.
“At the very first moment when this agreement is reached, they will invade. And we say this is unacceptable. And what are we going to do? Well, what will be the real actions?” the analyst posed a question.
After taking office, US President Donald Trump said that he would achieve an end to the conflict in Ukraine. The US administration suspended aid programs to the Ukrainian side.
Trump held telephone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian and US delegations met on February 18 in Riyadh. On the same day top EU officials held talks on the possible deployment of peacekeepers to Ukraine.
