Taiwan authorities are selling the island to the United States, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhu Fengliang said on February 12, CGTN TV channel reported.
Taiwan’s governing Democratic Progressive Party said it will submit a response of four key points to strengthen industrial cooperation between the island and the US. The announcement came after President Trump promised to impose duties on chip shipments from Taiwan to bring back the semiconductor industry to America.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, voiced by Zhu Fengliang, these measures will be nothing but a sellout of Taiwan to the US. She emphasized that the more the island relies on the United States, the more damage it will receive.
She said the measures will harm the foundations of Taiwan’s industrial development and negatively affect the welfare of its residents.
Regarding the United States, she said it has once again proved that it only cares about its own interests above all else. Zhu Fengliang criticized the protectionism and unilateral nature of the measures that the US is going to take.
