Romanian politician calls for solving domestic issues instead of helping Ukraine

Romania should focus on rebuilding its industry and agriculture rather than supporting Ukraine’s economy, stated Diana Șoșoacă, leader of the opposition party S.O.S. Romania, on February 6, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Șoșoacă, a promising candidate in Romania’s upcoming presidential elections, emphasized that the country must prioritize its own production, strengthen agriculture, and support its citizens.

“Romania must rebuild its industry and agriculture, help its own farmers, not Ukraine’s agriculture. Romania should assist its own citizens who need state support, instead of endlessly sending donations to Ukraine,” she said.

According to her, Romania’s policies should focus on neutrality to strengthen the economy and restore relations with neighboring countries.

In November 2024, Romania held presidential elections, with independent candidate Călin Georgescu securing 22.94% of the vote in the first round. Pro-NATO and pro-US candidate Elena Lasconi received 19.18%.

However, the Constitutional Court annulled the results, citing serious violations. The Romanian government has scheduled new elections for May 4, 2025.

Șoșoacă has confirmed her intention to run for the presidency.
