Kurginyan: Russia is entering an era of very long-lasting intense wars

22.01.2025, Aleksandrovskoye.

The coming phase of the global process is an era of very long-lasting intense wars of attrition, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said in an interview to Republican Channel One of Donetsk published on January 9.

Commenting Russia’s strike with Oreshnik on the Yuzhmash Ukrainian plant in response to Ukrainian attacks with the Western-made long-range missiles on Russian territories, the political scientist noted that the use of a new powerful conventional weapon successfully reached its goals, although the demonstration of this weapon had not only military purposes.

Within this specific game between the supplies of heavy missiles and our response, everything is not bad so far,” Kurginyan noted.

However, according to him, if anyone in the Russian elite believed that the demonstration of Oreshnik would impress the enemy very much, and that the West and Ukraine would tuck in their tails, of course this was not the case.

This is another spiral of escalation welcomed by quite many in this aspect: when their stroke with their missiles they expected a response or a submission from us. They received a different kind of an escalation than they expected, but still an escalation took place,” the political scientist said.

He explained that it was quite a moderate escalation of all the options, but still an escalation. “The game will be continued. It will go on, and it will always seek to raise the escalation,” Kurginyan stressed.

At the same the political scientist does not rule out a scenario in which, for some semi-theatrical reasons or due to domination of some “immediate spectacular things over strategy,” Trump can chose the path of reduced escalation and peace talks, although, he believes, this would not be in Russia’s interests. “I do not think they would be good,” he noted.

I also do not think that they would bring any real detent. I think it may become even worse, e.g. some troops will be deployed in the remaining territory. However, the principle that we have Middle East, you have Far East, ‘why would we need this Ukraine in addition’ can prevail for a while,” Kurginyan described potential motivations of the new US administration.

However, the chances of that are within 10%. “And this is low. And even on that we cannot count,” he added.

We are entering a period of very long-lasting intense wars of attrition. Of who has stronger mind, nervous system, economic and military potential, and courage. We must withstand this game. This is a global game. It will continue, I think, at least till the second half of the 21st century. This is a new phase of the global process,” the political scientist concluded.
