Representatives of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the proposal by US President Donald Trump to relocate some residents of Gaza to Indonesia unacceptable, as the news portal Detik News wrote on January 21.
“Indonesia remains firm in its position: any attempt to relocate residents of Gaza is unacceptable,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its official social media pages.
The ministry clarified that efforts to reduce the population of Gaza would only support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory and align with a broader strategy to expel Palestinians from Gaza.
A similar stance was voiced by Mardani Ali Sera, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency of Indonesia’s House of Representatives.
In comments to the ANTARA news agency, he called Trump’s proposal absurd, arguing that if Palestinians leave Gaza, the territory would immediately be seized by Israel.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s steadfast friendship with Palestine and criticized Trump for meddling in matters outside his authority.
“Relocation is not Trump’s business. He should consult with the people of Gaza. However, Indonesia’s readiness to support Palestine, especially the people of Gaza, is very clear and justified,” Sera concluded.
US President Donald Trump made several controversial statements before his official inauguration. Among them was a suggestion to resolve the Palestinian issue by relocating Gaza residents, with Indonesia mentioned as a potential destination.
