The decision of US President Donald Trump to return Cuba to the list of state sponsors of terrorism undermines Washington’s international credibility, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiankun on January 21, as reported by Prensa Latina.
According to the diplomat, repeated baseless accusations against Cuba and the arbitrary imposition of sanctions fully expose the hegemonic and authoritarian nature of the United States.
Guo Jiankun expressed distrust toward the US government and condemned the blockade that had been imposed on Cuba for over sixty years. He noted that the blockade is a severe violation of international law and has had devastating consequences for the Cuban people and economy.
“China has always opposed US interference in Cuba’s internal affairs under the pretext of freedom, democracy, or counterterrorism,” he emphasized.
Guo called on Washington to lift the blockade on the island as soon as possible and remove the Caribbean nation from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. Additionally, he urged the USA to normalize relations with Cuba to enhance peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
