Maduro proposes Brazil to decolonize Puerto Rico

13.01.2025, Caracas.

The armed forces of Venezuela and Brazil will help to decolonize Puerto Rico, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro stated on January 13 at the closing of the International Anti-Fascist World Festival.

He remarked that while there is a program of colonization in the north, the nations of Latin America have a program of liberation, inspired by Simón Bolívar. He asserted that Puerto Rico awaits its freedom and will eventually achieve it.

“The troops of Brazil and Abreu e Lima will head to the front. The Abreu e Lima Battalion for the liberation of Puerto Rico. What do you think?” Maduro asked the festival attendees, some of whom were holding Brazilian flags.

José Inácio Abreu e Lima was a Brazilian military leader and politician. During the wars for the independence of Spanish colonies, he was a close ally of Simón Bolívar. Abreu e Lima participated in the struggles for the independence of Venezuela and Colombia.

Currently, Puerto Rico is officially under the administration of Washington but is not a US state. The island, located about 600 km north of Venezuela, has a population of approximately 3 million people.
