NATO military base in Romania may be used for starting a war with Russia

The NATO military base in Constanța, Romania, could serve as a staging ground for launching a war against Russia, stated independent Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu on January 11, as reported by Digi 24.

“Is the international community pretending not to see what’s happening in Romania, or is there a direct interest in using Romania as a detonator for a dangerous precedent? No one has the right to endanger peace and democracy!” Georgescu said.

According to him, the silence of the United States and its allies about the developments in Romania demonstrates their complete lack of understanding of the situation.

Georgescu expressed concern over plans to expand the “Mihail Kogălniceanu” military base in Constanța, which is set to become the largest NATO base in Europe.

“This NATO base […] will be used to launch a major offensive against Russia. Romania is being pushed towards entering the war,” he said.

In March 2024, it was announced that the largest NATO military base in Europe would be established in Romania. The development involves the expansion of the 57th Air Base of the Romanian Air Force, named after Mihail Kogălniceanu, with completion projected by 2040.
