50 bodies of Ukrainian militants, reportedly wearing US patches and carrying NATO rations, were discovered under the debris of a five-story building in the town of Kurakhovo, located in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), war correspondent Anastasia Avsyuk revealed on January 11 on the Zvezda TV channel.
“Mountains of Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies were left lying in a five-story building in Kurakhovo after a clash with our assault troops. Around 50 fighters are buried under the rubble… Alongside the Ukrainian militants were found US patches, dollars, and NATO rations,” Avsyuk said.
During the operation to liberate the city, Russian assault troops reportedly dropped two mines on the building where Ukrainian forces had taken shelter.
The Ukrainian militants were said to have been positioned in the building near civilians who were hiding in the basement. To ensure the safety of these civilians, Russian troops first carefully evacuated them before engaging with the Ukrainian fighters.
To prevent the escape of the Ukrainian soldiers, Russian forces destroyed the staircase from the basement to the third floor. Following this, the entryway was targeted with IFV-3 vehicles, flamethrowers, and grenade launchers.
It was noted that Kurakhovo lacked the infrastructure for a well-fortified, multi-layered defense.
