In the world today, a rapid mutation has happened, and the readiness of the spirit for politics is now dead, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on December 7 in the Right to Know program on channel TVC.
Speaking about democracy, the political scientist quoted an excerpt from German writer Thomas Mann’s article Culture and Politics.“The fact that I realized myself as a supporter of democracy was due to my beliefs, which came difficult to me as they first were alien to me born and raised in the spiritual traditions of German burghers; yes, I came to a belief that the political and social is an inherent part of the human, that it belongs to the one problem of humanism, into which our intelligence must include it, and that this problem can have a dangerous gap deadly for culture if we ignore its inherent political, social element. Wouldn’t it seem strange,” Mann writes, “if I said that I simply equalize democracy and politics defining it as the political aspect of the spiritual, as the readiness of spirit to politics?”
Sergey Kurginyan noted that the kind of democracy that Mann discusses in non-existent today. Previously, the political scientist stressed, the Soviet Union had friends in the Western world. He referred to Thomas Mann again, who was advisor to US president Franklin Roosevelt during World War One, and who said that they could get along with the communists “on the grounds of the will to improve humanity.” Today, according to the political scientist, everything has changed dramatically.
“The political component of the spiritual, the readiness of spirit to politics is dead. When it began to die after the collapse of the Soviet Union I was astonished. What is that? What is it? Are these the successors to Thomas Mann, Balzac, Hugo, Dickens? Are these successors to Roosevelt, Churchill? Are these successors, after all, to the great American traditions?” the leader of Essence of Time said.
He noted that two states were fighting during the Civil War in the USA. One of them hated England with its industrialism, and it believed that America had to me a farmers’ country. And the other state was for industrialization.
“Why are these things gone? What kind of a pervert scum is that? What kind of people are those speaking about the end of the Project of Man, of the Project of Humanism? How quickly it has mutated! It is understandable for the Germans after the way they were dealt with. If anyone thinks that Vance (James David Vance, vice president-elect of the USA – Rossa Primavera News Agency) has similar people in his team, he must be naive,” Kurginyan stressed.
According to the political scientist, previous values have rapidly mutated in the world. Inside this mutation, the political scientist noted, there is the problem of humanism and “the readiness of spirit to politics.”
“Perhaps the old world ‘humanism,’ which our traditionalist groups misinterpret, is the key today. Perhaps if people understand that the destiny of humanism is actually at stake and what happens beyond humanism, what they are already doing beyond, maybe this is when someone will wake up?” Sergey Kurginyan said.
